Description
“This book is a summary of research findings on the application of UV-Visible spectroscopy technology for the authenticity testing of Indonesian specialty coffee powders, such as Gayo coffee from Aceh, Kintamani coffee from Bali, and Preanger coffee from West Java. These coffees have a high economic value and the potential to improve the livelihoods of coffee farmers. Most specialty coffees are marketed as ground roasted coffee, ready to brew. In addition to shelf life issues, ground coffee is very susceptible to adulteration.
This technology is highly feasible for downstream application because: UV-Visible spectrometers are relatively inexpensive, sample extraction uses only hot water (chemical-free), the equipment is easy to operate, and is available in many standard laboratories in Indonesia. The research includes qualitative and quantitative studies involving various chemometric methods such as PLS-DA and SIMCA for classification and discrimination processes (qualitative study) and PLS regression for quantitative studies.”
